Local Information
A short drive away is the small town of Théoule sur Mer with an attractive harbour and port with easy access to beautiful sandy beaches and to the dramatic rocky coastline that characterises the region. It has all the amenities required including a supermarket, tabac, boulangerie, pharmacy, doctor and hairdresser. There are plenty of excellent restaurants, bars and cafés – many of which are located on the beach with outstanding sea views. There are numerous private beach clubs, as well as public beaches.
Ferries from Théoule will take you to Cannes and to the beautiful Îles de Lérins where you can visit the local monastery or alternatively do some celeb-spotting at the fabulous La Guérite restaurant.
St Tropez is also a boat ride away from St Maxime and is a fantastic day trip, particularly on market days (every Tuesday and Saturday).
For the more energetic, there is plenty of golf and tennis locally. Boats (motor or sailing), jet skis and watersports are all available at La Figueirette or Théoule. The Gorges du Verdon and Lac St Cassien are also nearby for water sports and other adventures like kayaking, hiking, biking, zip wiring etc.
There are two 5* hotels both within walking distance – the Tiara Yaksta and Miramar Beach Hotel which are great for cocktails and fine dining. The Miramar Beach also has a tennis court and a Spa.
The renowned golf courses at Mandelieu and Barbossi are both 15 minutes drive away. The Terre Blanche Hotel, Spa and Golf Course is also nearby.
For “Culture Vultures”, St Paul de Vence is a 45 minute drive. You can also visit the Picasso museum in Antibes and the Matisse museum in Nice. The nearby hilltop village of Mougins is really worth a visit, as are the perfumeries of Grasse and the glassworks in Biot.
And, of course, there are plenty of nearby vineyards for a spot of wine tasting….
